Tareasa “Reesa Teesa” Johnson shifted the world off its axis when she detailed her traumatic relationship with a pathological liar via her 50-part “Who TF did I Marry?” TikTok series. Since then, the viral sensation’s career has taken off with brand deals and TV appearances. Her story captivated the social media world—now it’ll be shared on the big screen because Natasha Rothwell is set to play Johnson in a TV adaptation of the TikTok series, which she will also executively produce.
Johnson’s recall of her tumultuous marriage to “Legion” spotlighted a dark time in her life, highlighting her exceptional storytelling skills. She kept people so engaged that she gained three million followers just two weeks after posting the series and garnered 400 million impressions in under three weeks. TikTokers streamed it on their television screens as they listed her horrific tales, which included her husband conducting fake phone calls with family members, lying about playing football at San Diego State, and claiming his relatives were dead when they were alive.
Rothwell is the perfect person to bring Johnson’s story to life. The actress captured the hearts of fans with her role as Kelli, Issa’s BFF, in the hit HBO series, Insecure. Her hilariously witty personality added to the iconic show’s documentation of Black culture, sisterhood, and relationships.
This series is one of the many projects in the works for Rothwell. The funny-gal actress is currently promoting her upcoming Hulu series, How to Die Alone, which premieres on September 13. She will also make a comeback in season three of White Lotus.
