Naomi Beckwith is now senior curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, which she joined in 2011 as curator.
While at the MCA, Beckwith has organized numerous solo exhibitions, such as the first retrospective of Howardena Pindell (which she co-curated with Valerie Cassel Oliver of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts) and shows with the Propeller Group, Keren Cytter, and William J. O’Brien. She recently served as a curatorial adviser on the 2018 edition of SITElines “Casa tomada,” at SITE Santa Fe in New Mexico.
Beckwith has also curated the highly praised 2015 exhibition “The Freedom Principle: Experiments in Art and Music, 1965 to Now” at the MCA, as well as collection exhibitions, including “Color Bind: The MCA Collection in Black and White” and the recent “You Are Here,” one part of a three-part group of shows of work from the museum’s permanent collection collectively titled “We Are Here.”
Prior to working at the MCA Chicago, Beckwith was associate curator at the Studio Museum in Harlem from 2007 to 2011. Her curatorial credits from there include a solo show of Lynette Yiadom-Boakye and the 2009 exhibition “30 Seconds off an Inch.”
