This year’s NADA Artadia Award—an unrestricted $5,000 prize for one artist exhibiting at the fair—has been given to Stephanié Saadé for her work in the booth of Counter Space Zürich. Born in Lebanon and based in Beirut, Paris, and Amsterdam, Saadé makes work that often engages the history of Lebanon and her autobiographical relationship with her homeland. In a Map of Good Memories, on view at this year’s fair, represents 20 of the artist’s recollections ranging from childhood to recent times, rendering them in what a release describes as “an intimate and sentimental journey; a geographical self-portrait, to be experienced by the public.”
The selection was made by a two-person jury, both of whom are based in Bentonville, Arkansas: Allison Glenn, associate curator of contemporary art at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and Cynthia Post Hunt, a programmer of theater/dance at The Momentary.
In a statement about the award, the two curators said, “We were impressed by Stéphanie Saadé’s engagement with landscape and consideration of the impact of memory and materiality on the body.”
