My favourite place to switch off in Seoul is…
The Korean sauna at the Four Seasons!
The art world in Seoul is different because…
The art world in Seoul is a fascinating blend of the old and the new, much like the city itself. Just as ancient palaces stand harmoniously alongside towering skyscrapers, the art scene here intertwines deep-rooted traditions with contemporary expressions. Many artists in Seoul draw inspiration from Korean culture and heritage, creating works that resonate profoundly with local audiences, fostering a vibrant and deeply supported local scene. Here, you’ll encounter artists who are celebrated within Korea but remain undiscovered on the global stage—though this is rapidly changing as Seoul’s art scene becomes increasingly international. The city’s dynamic evolution is palpable; Seoul is one of the most fast-paced cities in the world, where the cultural landscape transforms every few months. New ideas and trends are eagerly embraced, adapted, and refined, which is a reflection of the city’s unique spirit and its relentless drive for innovation.
The best place for an after-party in Seoul is…
SX in itaewon and Minibar in Hannam are where the cool kids of Seoul hang out late at night. You will find artists, creatives, celebrities—you name it.
Living/visiting here makes me feel…
Vibrant, efficient, productive and authentic.
My top tip for surviving Frieze Seoul week is…
Finding balance amidst the whirlwind of art events and social gatherings is key. Attempting to attend everything can quickly become overwhelming, so this year, I’m focusing on managing my time more mindfully. I always start my day with Korea’s renowned beauty and wellness treatments, which set a revitalising tone for the rest of the day. My routine includes a mix of clinical skincare, recovery IV cocktails, specialty massages, Korean saunas, scalp spas, beauty salon visits, acupuncture, and traditional Korean medicine. Additionally, I incorporate Korean wellness supplements, like Temple by Suri [Su Park launched the wellness lifestyle brand 'Temple‘ during Seoul art week and Paris fashion week this month], to boost immunity and aid recovery throughout the week!
Art fairs are important because…
They cultivate an expanded ecosystem that enriches both society and the economy, while also creating a unique celebration of art and culture specific to the host city. For locals, an art fair offers a fresh perspective on their home, revealing new layers of excitement and engagement. For visitors, it transforms the city into a vibrant cultural epicentre, offering an exhilarating experience as if, for that week, it were the very heart of the world.
I last cooked for…
I last prepared my signature Korean barbecue at my home in Paris for the Korean counsellor and delegation in France, offering them a comforting taste of home, even while far from it.
I last watched (film/theatre/box set)…
Korean National Ballet’s special gala for the Paris Olympics.
