The Washington Post reports that on Thursday, 24-year-old, Eliyas Aregahegne was sent  to prison pending his Sept. 12 hearing on a charge of first-degree murder while armed. Aregahegne is accused of killing 27-year-old Margery Magill as she worked her second job as a dog walker on Tuesday.

Court records say D.C. police followed a blood trail from the crime scene directly to Aregahegne’s father’s home, where they found him near bloody clothes and an empty knife package. An affidavit says Aregahegne told detectives he had been at the crime scene and had heard voices speaking to him from inside his head. The newspaper obtained District records that confirm Aregahegne’s previously reported auditory hallucinations.
