Real-estate developer Gerald Wolkoff will appeal a judge’s order to pay $6.8 million to a Long Island City-based group of street artists. Wolkoff had washed their work from one of his building’s walls.

Helena Almeida, Portuguese avant-garde artist, has passed away at the age of 84. [Artforum]

Cal State Long Beach held a question-and-answer forum over the firing of Kimberli Meyer,  the director of its museum, and several students and professors expressed their outrage. One professor stated: “The absolute reigning confusion, the lack of transparency feels bad, just bad.” [Hyperallergic]

New York-based art dealer Ezra Chowaiki has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for fraud. The dealer of pieces by artists like Picasso and Alexander Calder will be forced to pay restitution, the exact amount still undecided. [New York Times]
