Expansions
The Frick Collection in New York released its latest plans for an expansion, designed by Annabelle Selldorf, which will feature “a renovated lobby; a newly created second level above the reception hall; and a new education center, cafe and expanded museum shop.” A previous plan to expand was sharply criticized because it would have involved destroying a garden designed by Russell Page. Times architecture critic Michael Kimmelman praised the proposal. “Frick admirably listened,” he wrote on Twitter, saying that Selldorf “preserved what’s great about Frick and fixed what wasn’t, mostly backstage.” And, noting the cafe he added, “watch out Sabarsky,” referring to the redoubtable Viennese-style cafe at the nearby Neue Galerie.
