Amid Randy Moss‘ recently announced cancer diagnosis, he now knows that his Minnesota Vikings family is there for him.
Ahead of Monday Night Football’s game, the Vikings took on the Chicago Bears; it all began with a tribute to the great wide receiver. Before the coin toss, former teammates Jake Reed and Cris Carter walked to the center of the field while holding a Moss jersey above their heads.
“In honor of Randy Moss and all those fighting cancer. Let’s Moss Cancer,” the announcer said.
Moss got some support during the game, too, when Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson scored the game’s first touchdown and immediately ran to the sideline camera and yelled, “We love you, Randy!”
Jefferson also expressed his support privately, with ESPN reporting that he texted Moss last week when he found out about his diagnosis.
“I’m grateful for what he has done for this game and what he has done for me as a kid. Just watching him and being a fan of him, I’ve always got to show love to him,” he said after the game while rocking a Moss jersey.
To make the night even more victorious, the Vikings beat the Bears 30-12, improving their record to 12-2.
The tribute comes after Moss posted to his Instagram page that he’s got cancer and already underwent surgery.
I know I told ya’ll over the last couple of weeks about me battling something internally. Your boy is a cancer survivor,” he said while seated and clutching a cane. I just want to give a shoutout to a lot of people who really helped me pull through this.”
He explains that he was hospitalized for six days, only just getting out the day he posted the video. He went on to thank his doctors for finding the cancer, which was “right between the pancreas and the liver.”
Fans originally began to worry after the 47-year-old stepped away from his ESPN broadcasting gig, only vaguely citing a “personal health challenge.”
