Nationwide — 23-year old Jada Davis has been crowned as Miss Milwaukee 2022, making her the first Black woman ever to win the title in history.
Davis bested 8 candidates in the Miss Milwaukee competition that was held virtually for the first time on March 19.
Upon winning the crown, Davis received a $700 scholarship. She also earned a $100 scholarship for winning the top talent award after performing a contemporary fusion dance piece to the spoken word poem “Dear Black Girl” by Candace Nicholas.
Davis will serve as Miss Milwaukee for a year and go around the community to promote her personal social impact initiative “What’s Wrong With Being Confident?” which is focused on building self-confidence and positive body image among youth.
“She will continue her work to bridge the gap between generations to create a space for people to share their own confidence-building experiences,” Miss Wisconsin Organization said in a statement, according to TMJ4.
Davis, who graduated Magna Cum Laude at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, is currently pursuing her Juris Doctorate at Marquette University Law School. She calls herself “The Dancing Lawyer” as she combines her passion for arts and education to prove that they could actually co-exist.
Having grown up in Milwaukee, Davis has always been actively involved in the community. She serves as a law clerk and former dance instructor for the Boys & Girls Club. She also frequently volunteers for several organizations such as Milwaukee Justice Center, Marquette Volunteer Law Clinic, YWCA, Black Youth Alliance, and Unity Gospel House of Prayer.
Moreover, Davis will be competing in the Miss Wisconsin pageant in Oshkosh in June, a state preliminary to the Miss America Competition.
