When it comes to matching fashion, no one does it quite like Mary J. Blige.
The Queen of Hip Hop Soul has long been known for her love of over-the-top monochromatic looks where every piece—from her boots to her gloves—comes together in perfect harmony. Nothing is out of place when it comes to Mary’s fits, and her latest music video is no exception.
In her new video for the song “Breathing,” featuring Fabolous, Mary showcases yet another stunning red matching look that has her fans in awe. Each part of her fit is the exact same fire-red hue – Mary and her stylist, Maurícía Henry, took care of every detail in this look.

On August 16, the “All That I Can Say” singer took to Instagram with a carousel of photos highlighting her all-red velvet ensemble. The fit, part of a picture series to celebrate the new track, is a masterclass in how to pull off a monochromatic look with style and flair.
The video opens with Mary J. Blige in a fierce red outfit that is quintessentially her. The halter-style top, with intricate lace-up details, hugs her curves and exudes confidence, while the ruched asymmetrical skirt adds an edgy and elegant modern twist.
But her accessories – and mixed fabrics – take this look to the next level.
Mary’s love for matching doesn’t stop at her clothing in various fabrics, including satin, patent leather, and velvet. Her boots, in particular, are a signature element of her style, and she’s made it clear that no one rocks a pair of over-the-knee boots quite like she does.
(And this year, she took her love of boots to a new level by launching her own line with Giuseppe Zanotti, further solidifying her status as a fashion force to be reckoned with.)
In the “Breathing” video, the red patent leather boots complement her outfit perfectly and create a seamless, head-to-toe look that’s nothing short of iconic. Her opera gloves and exaggerated wide-brim hat top off her look with the dramatic flair Mary fans have come to expect.
