Letitia James, New York’s attorney general-elect, said that she will investigate President Donald Trump and his family once she takes office next month, she told NBC News.
“We will use every area of the law to investigate President Trump and his business transactions and that of his family as well,” said James, who is also willing to investigate “anyone” close to the president. “We want to investigate anyone in his orbit who has, in fact, violated the law.”
James told NBC News she plans to look into the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with a Russian official, the president’s real estate holdings in New York, government subsidies he received and continue an investigation into the Trump Foundation, a probe that started with former New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who resigned in May over sexual abuse allegations.
“Taking on President Trump and looking at all of the violations of law I think is no match to what I have seen in my lifetime,” said James.
The Democrat, who received an endorsement from Gov. Andrew Cuomo, made history in November by becoming the first Black woman elected to be New York’s attorney general.
