New York’s Leslie Tonkonow Artworks + Projects now represents artist Helène Aylon, who will have her first show with the gallery in January of next year. That exhibition will be her first solo outing at a New York gallery since 1979, when she was represented by Betty Parsons. The forthcoming exhibition will focus on Aylon’s “Elusive Silver” series of abstract paintings created from linseed oil on paper and mounted on Masonite panels, which the artist created during the late 1960s and early ’70s.

Tonkonow told ARTnews, “Although I had known of her for many years, it wasn’t until I visited Helène Aylon’s studio for the first time last spring that I became more fully aware of the clarity and idealism in her work. Her process-driven experiments throughout the 1970s are imbued with spiritual and political meaning beyond their considerable formal beauty.”
