Rapper Killer Mike apologized to the March For Our Lives youth organizers on Sunday for his interview with the National Rifle Association.
The Atlanta born rapper has become known for his political and social activism – especially speaking in support of Bernie Sanders during the last presidential campaign run. He fell under heavy scrutiny this weekend after NRA TV shared a video interview with him making disparaging comments about the National School Walkout Day. A day where students walked out of their classrooms to honor the 17 people killed in the Parkland shooting and a silent demand for gun reform.

In his apology video, Mike clarified that the discussion was shot a week before the event and was unfortunately wrongly “weaponized” against minorities.
“I’m sorry that an interview I did about a minority, Black people in this country, and gun rights was used as a weapon against you guys,” Killer Mike said. “That was unfair to you and it was wrong, and it disparaged some very noble work you’re doing.”

Along with his apology Killer Mike told student activists and youth organizers to continue doing their work. He said that the only point of his initial interview was to contribute to “African-American gun ownership.” He continued, “That’s all my interview was about. It was not in contrast to your march. It was done well a week before your march. If should have never been used in contrast to your march and I think it’s wrong.”
