Lawrence B. Benenson, a partner of the New York–based real estate investment and development company Benenson Capital Partners, has given Do Ho Suh’s 2003 installation The Perfect Home II to the Brooklyn Museum. The work will go on view on October 12 as part of “One Brooklyn,” a new exhibition series devoted to single-work presentations.
The Perfect Home II mirrors an apartment that the artist once rented on West 23rd Street in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood. The apartment itself and an adjacent hallway are recreated in translucent fabric for a work that situates the viewer in a personal space to which the artist can no longer lay claim.
Suh’s installation, which can be entered and navigated by its viewers, first appeared in a 2003 solo show at the Lehmann Maupin gallery in New York. It will be on view at the Brooklyn Museum through January 27, 2019.
Eugenie Tsai, the Brooklyn Museum’s senior curator of contemporary art, said in a statement, “The work addresses loss and memory on several levels—the personal, the local, and the global—making it an ideal piece to initiate a range of fascinating conversations with our diverse audiences.”
