The Katonah Museum of Art in New York’s Westchester County has named Michael Gitlitz as executive director. Previously, he worked as a senior specialist in modern and contemporary art at Paddle8 auction house. From 2001 to 2015, he was a director at Marlborough Gallery in New York. Prior to that, he worked at Hirschl & Adler Galleries, on American and European art from the 17th to the 21st centuries, as well as in a directorial role for Hirschl & Adler Modern.

In a statement, Gitlitz said, “The KMA is a unique institution with an extraordinary legacy of offering world-class art exhibitions while also serving as an intimate nexus for community engagement. My family lives not far from the museum and we have always thought of the KMA as a great asset to the area.”

He succeeds Darsie Alexander, who was executive director of the Katonah Museum from 2014 to 2018.
