Last night, while many in the art world were recovering from a full day at the Frieze New York art fair, the folks at the Museum of Modern Art were celebrating the opening of “Abel Ferrara Unrated,” a complete retrospective of the Bronx-born filmmaker. There was a musical portion of the event where Ferrara played guitar, sang, and rapped.

According to a source who attended the event, at one point painter Julian Schnabel took the stage and sang. Asked what exactly Schnabel was singing, our source said, “He really didn’t know how to sing properly into the mic so you couldn’t understand a word.”

Willem Dafoe, who incidentally played Vincent van Gogh in Schnabel’s recent Oscar-nominated film At Eternity’s Gate, also took the stage to sing. According to our source, Dafoe was “pretty good.”
