The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has named its 2018 fellows. Some 175 scholars, artists, and writers working in a variety of disciplines were selected; notable recipients in the arts-related categories include Branden W. Joseph, Hank Willis Thomas, Janet Biggs, Teju Cole, Peter Burr, Amy Feldman, and Anthony Hernandez.

The foundation receives approximately 3,000 applications for the fellowship each year. Since its founding in 1925 to memorialize John Simon Guggenheim’s son, who died several years earlier, the foundation has granted over $350 million to more than 18,000 individuals who demonstrate excellence in their field.
