Rapper Jay “Jeezy” Jenkins is the latest rapper to launch his very own sports agency named Sports 99. According to The Bleacher Report, Sports 99 is a full-service sports management agency representing athletes and coaches in the U.S. and internationally. The agency will also start off by representing professional players in the NBA and NFL.
The Atlanta rapper made an announcement about his new business venture on Instagram, writing, “I have learned through the trials and tribulations of my career, what it’s like to have to co-manage yourself. I want to help athletes accumulate real wealth and life skills needed to invest in their future. I’ve always been drawn to athlete culture and making music that motivates and inspires them and others.”
Jeezy joins a group of rappers-turned-business moguls who have launched their own sports agencies, including Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, who founded Roc Nation Sports, Percy “Master P” Miller, who owns No Limit Sports Management, and Dwayne “Lil Wane” Carter, the owner of Young Money APAA Sports.
Jay-Z’s Roc Nation roster represents NFL players like New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette, and Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Melvin Ingram in the NFL. In the NBA, its clientele includes Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving, Los Angeles Lakers small forward Danny Green, and San Antonio Spurs forward Rudy Gay. They also represent New York Yankees pitcher C.C. Sabathia and New York Mets second baseman Robinson Cano.
Lil Wayne’s Young Money APAA Sports, which acquired PlayersRep Sports Management in late 2017, has a roster that consists mostly of NFL players, including New York Jets rookie defensive end Quinnen Williams, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd, and Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Richie Incognito.
