Pictures at an Exhibition presents images of one notable show every weekday.

Today’s show: “Jacob’s Ladder” is on view at Ingleby in Edinburgh, Scotland, through Saturday, October 20. The group exhibition looks to explore “mankind’s relationship with space and our enduring attempts to fathom the unfathomable,” on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of both the release of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey and the publication of Apollo 8 crewman William Anders’s photographs of Earth as seen from space (known as Earthrise).

The show include Georges Méliès’s 1902 film A Trip to the Moon, alongside work by David Austen, Ben Cauchi, Vija Celmins, Susan Derges, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Richard Foster, Marine Hugonnier, Alicja Kwade, Peter Liversidge, Jonny Lyons, Garry Fabian Miller, Cornelia Parker, Katie Paterson, and Frank Walter.
