Is Chance the Rapper running for mayor of Chicago?

Chance the Rapper had some fun fundraising when he pretended to be a Lyft and drove around passengers as part of an effort to raise money for arts education programs in Chicago.

Grammy-winning hip-hop artist, caught passengers off guard as an undercover Lyft driver and engaged in playful dialogue that included asking them who was their favorite rap artist.

Chance was unrecognizable with shades and a cap on and introduced himself as John, reports the Chicago Tribune. Chance took part in the video to promote Chicago’s public schools’ arts programs and he encouraged passengers to support the cause with donations. Lyft has an app feature called Round Up where riders can donate change to support his charity, The New Chance Fund, or others.

Chance, born Chancelor Jonathan Bennett, has given millions to support the city’s schools. And just last week, the rapper promised the city of Chicago $1 million for mental health services for its citizens.

“I’m proud to announce I am pledging $1 million to mental health services in Chicago,” Chance said on stage to a group of educators, principals and health care experts.

As part of the “My State of Mind” initiative, Chicagoans will have access to resources needed to receive vital mental health services.

“We need a new space to get information on how they feel and where they can go,” Chance said.

In addition, Chance pledged a gift of $100,000 to 20 Chicago Public Schools, through his non-profit SocialWorks.

“This year, 20 more schools will get $100K…” Chance said to cheers.

Chance for Mayor?

Chance is no doubt doing a lot for his hometown, but is a plan to officially run for Mayor on the menu?

Chance tweeted out a photo of a media advisory that read: “Chance the Rapper to hold press conference regarding Chicago mayoral election.”
