Annie Fletcher will be the new director of the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin. She will begin in her new position at the IMMA on March 1, 2019.
Fletcher is currently chief curator at the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, and a tutor at the de Appel Museum in Amsterdam, the Dutch Art Institute, and the Design Academy Einhoven. Among the shows she has curated for the Van Abbemuseum are a 2014 Hito Steyerl retrospective and a 2017 Qiu Zhijie survey. She is now working on an Otolith Group exhibition, set to open in 2019.
Her new position at the IMMA marks a return to the institution, where, from 2001 to 2002, she was acting head of exhibitions.
In addition to her projects for museums around Europe, she organized the 2012 edition of the EVA International biennial in Limerick, Ireland, juried the 2014 edition of the Turner Prize, and sat on the selection committee for the 2016 Irish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
“Returning to Ireland, I am excited to start working with such an inspiring, talented and active artistic community,” Fletcher said in a statement. “At the same time I look forward to initiating international collaborations and dialogues, drawing on the rich discourses and artistic practices I have had the privilege to encounter over the last 20 years.”
