The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles has added Adrian Cheng, Marina Kellen French, Simon Mordant, Sean Parker, and Julia Stoschek to its board. Cheng, Mordant, and Stoschek are all currently board members at MoMA PS1, which was previously headed up by Klaus Biesenbach, MOCA’s new director.
Cheng, who is on the ARTnews “Top 200 Collectors” list, is the founder of the K11 Art Foundation in Hong Kong. He currently serves as executive chairman and general manager of New World Development and the executive director of the Chow Tai Fook Capital Limited.
French is a philanthropist who is also currently a trustee at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. She is also the vice president of the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation and the president of the Marina Kellen French Foundation.
Mordant is the cofounder and executive co-chairman of Luminis Partners, an investment banking firm based in Sydney. He is chairman of the board of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Australia.
Parker is chairman of the Parker Institute on Cancer Immunotherapy, a San Francisco–based organization devoted to researching and developing forms of cancer treatment. He and his wife, Alexandra Parker, founded the Parker Foundation.
Stoschek, who is also an ARTnews “Top 200” collector, is the founder of the Julia Stoschek Collection, a museum with branches in Berlin and Dusseldorf that show time-based, performance, and installation works.
“I am humbled and grateful to welcome five extraordinary philanthropists, leading art specialists, and pioneering supporters of the arts and social causes to the board of MOCA,” Biesenbach said in a statement. “Each, in their own way, brings a unique knowledge and experience to the board that will broaden and strengthen the growth of the museum going forward.”
The addition of the new board members comes shortly after Biesenbach began as MOCA’s director and, in October, Maria Seferian took on duties as chair of the museum’s board.
