In what some are characterizing as a surprising decision, Baltimore’s Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (IMA), has endorsed Mary Miller for Mayor of Baltimore.
“Baltimore is facing a significant loss of revenue now, as well as in the coming years,” said the Rev. Dr. Al Gwynn, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Northeast Baltimore, and president of the IMA in the official statement. The organization represents many of the Black churches in the Baltimore metropolitan area.
“This will affect crime fighting, education, jobs and much more. Not only does the city need a fresh leader, but one who understands municipal financing and how to obtain funding from new sources, both private and public. Mary Miller is the right choice for Baltimore City to do the job. That’s why the IMA endorses Mary Miller for Mayor of Baltimore City.”
Of the leading candidates for mayor, Miller is the only White candidate in the race. “We are so grateful to have the support of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance and look forward to working with them in our efforts to make Baltimore the city we know it can be,” said Miller, a former official in the Obama administration and former executive with T. Rowe Price.
“Mary is hard working, laser focused and will be a tremendous asset as Mayor of Baltimore City,” said Rev. Gwynn in an endorsement letter crafted for members of the IMA. “The IMA is seeking the citizens of Baltimore to elect her as our next mayor.”
