The Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) and the Made in NY Media Center by IFP is partnering with ESPN on a podcast pitching program, entitled the 30 for 30 Podcasts Story Workshop, for the popular sports storytelling series 30 for 30 Podcasts.  IFP and ESPN opened a call for podcast pitch submissions, which will be reviewed in early July, with the potential to secure a production and financing deal from ESPN.

30 for 30 Podcasts is ESPN’s premium series of original sports audio documentaries. A spin-off of the Oscar and Peabody award-winning 30 for 30 documentary film series, the podcast utilizes original interviews, archival sound, and the textured intimacy of the audio medium to explore compelling characters, teams, incidents, and stories across the sports landscape.

Beginning today, 30 for 30 Podcasts Story Workshop is accepting submissions for original audio story pitches for the chance to have their project fully funded and produced. Podcast submissions should center around focused, historical, sports related events, or sports as a setting to explore off-the-field themes. A subset of projects that are submitted will be invited to participate in a private pitch session with 30 for 30 Podcasts and ESPN producers and development executives, at the Made in NY Media Center on July 17. One or more of the most compelling podcast ideas may be chosen for further development with 30 for 30 Podcasts.

The program derives from IFP’s focus to grow their podcast and audio engagement.  “This partnership is an integral step in the initiative to expand our presence in audio storytelling,” said Joana Vicente, the Executive Director of IFP.  “The potential outcome of the program is incredibly exciting, and we are thrilled to be able to connect our community with this kind of exposure.”

IFP has an ever-growing network of talented media-makers, many of which are notable audio and podcast creators.  “You never know where the next great idea or the next talented podcast producer will come from,” said Jody Avirgan, Host and Senior Producer of 30 for 30 Podcasts. “I think that story development is the most important thing we do, and this partnership will help us expand that process to make sure we are producing the most compelling documentaries in all of audio. Also, it’s going to be really fun.”

Submissions will be open from June 11th through June 29th accessible through http://www.ifpaudio.com/
