John Wick 3 star Halle Berry said recently that she turned down the opportunity to work with co-star Keanu Reeves in the 1994 action flick Speed.
While speaking with ET Online, the Oscar-winner explained that she passed on the leading role opposite Reeves, which went to Sandra Bullock.
“I don’t know if you know this, but I was offered Speed before Sandra Bullock. I stupidly
said no. But in my defense, when I read the script, the bus didn’t leave the
parking lot.”
The film follows the story of passengers on a Los Angeles bus after a terrorist plants a bomb that will detonate if it drops below a certain speed.
“I was like, ‘No, no, no, no,’” she said. “Then, I see the movie and I’m like, ‘Arrrrghh!’”
Berry confirmed she turned down the role before Reeves was
involved, and that the draft she received needed several re-writes to bring it
up to par.
“They were
offering me the parking lot version,” she joked.
