Francisca Nuvor, VoicesofAfrica mobile reporter in Accra, Ghana (29 January 2010) Abstract paintings that are characterized by distorted images, geometric shapes, lines and cool colours does not just appear on a silver platter but rather it demands a deep thinking and takes a talented and creative person to come up with such an art, says David Mewunya Charway, a well known contemporary artist.
As I took a visit to an exhibition which was open at Alliance Francaise in Accra recently, David who is a member of the Foundation for Contemporary Art and the conductor of the exhibition and his college Emma, as well commented on their arts and its symbolism. Employing the use of human figures that have been set against rows of pin-like lines, his painting appears vigorous and guite original.

His ideas, he said sometimes ‘come in a form of a dream and also through a thorough thinking’. David Mawunya Charway had his training at the College of Arts, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. He commented on diverse issues while attracting the attention of viewers with images that simple recall the skills of ancient Ghanaian craftsmen.
