The Getty Research Institute (GRI) in Los Angeles has appointed Naoko Takahatake as its new curator of prints and drawings. Takahatake joins the institute in July after holding the same position at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art since 2010.

“The Getty’s profound commitment to advancing the appreciation of the history of prints and drawings has inspired audiences in Los Angeles and internationally,” she said in a statement. “I am looking forward to participating in its outstanding programs of exhibitions, education, and scholarship, while helping to expand the collection.”

Before joining LACMA, Takahatake was a research fellow in the Old Masters prints department of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. She has also held research-related positions at the Center for Advance Study in the Visual Arts and the British Museum.

Mary Miller, the GRI’s director, said in a statement, “Naoko Takahatake is a gifted curator and has extensive expertise working with works on paper of the greatest importance. . . . I’m confident she will help us expand and present our already broad holdings in meaningful ways.”
