This year, Los Angeles will see the opening of sophomore editions of three fairs—Frieze Los Angeles, Felix LA, and Spring/Break LA—as well as the return of three more art shows. Frieze Los Angeles
The second edition of Frieze Los Angeles at Paramount Pictures Studios is set to run from February 15 to 16, and will bring together over 70 international galleries, including return participants like powerhouses David Zwirner, Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace, and Victoria Miro, as well as several hometown heroes like Blum & Poe, Kayne Griffin Corcoran, David Kordansky, and Commonwealth and Council. First-time exhibitors include Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, Gladstone Gallery, and Skarstedt, and the fair will also feature a new section, titled “Focus L.A.,” to highlight local art spaces that have been in business for 15 years or fewer. An exhibition of performances, site-specific sculptures and installations, and videos on Paramount’s backlot—co-curated by Rita Gonzalez, head of contemporary art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Pilar Tompkins-Rivas, director of the Vincent Price Art Museum—will spotlight works by Lorna Simpson, Mario García Torres, Vincent Ramos, Gabriella Sanchez, Tavares Strachan, Patrisse Cullors, Naama Tsabar, and others. Admission to both the galleries tent and the curated program costs $125, and tickets for the backlot exhibition alone are $25.

Felix LA
From February 14 to 16, the unconventional Felix LA will return to the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel for its sophomore turn. Among the fair’s special projects are an exhibition of work by Carolee Schneemann, Betty Tompkins, and Martha Willson, presented by P.P.O.W., and a show of pieces by Judy Chicago, curated by Transparent creator Jill Soloway and presented by San Francisco’s Jessica Silverman Gallery. Exhibitors at the event, whose format was inspired by the fabled Gramercy International Los Angeles at the Chateau Marmont, include Anton Kern, Nicelle Beauchene, Corbett vs. Dempsey, Kavi Gupta, Roberts Projects, Marlborough, and White Columns. Though it was free and open to the public last year, the fair is selling $25 passes valid for the entire run of its second edition.

Spring/Break Art Show
Another fair entering its second year in Los Angeles is the curator-driven Spring/Break Art Show, which has held editions in New York since 2012 and is known for exhibiting immersive and quirky projects. Running from February 15 to 16 at Skylight Row DTLA, a former industrial factory, Spring/Break LA will convene enterprises like Gallery1993, Gas Gallery, and New Art Projects, as well as projects by curators like Lauren Powell, Sadaf Padder, and Teresa Eggers. Presentations at this year’s LA event will address the theme “In Excess.” Single-day admission is $25.

Art Los Angeles Contemporary

Known for connecting collectors with emerging artists, stARTup Art Fair will showcase works by over 70 artists at the Kinney Venice Beach from February 14 to 16. The fair’s fifth L.A. edition will also present curated exhibitions organized by six local art nonprofits, including the Los Angeles Center of Photography and Venice Arts. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

Art Palm Springs
More action awaits just two hours outside Los Angeles at the Palm Springs Convention Center, where Art Palm Springs will run from February 14 to 17. The ninth edition will include 70 international galleries, like Miami’s Adamar Fine Arts, offering works by Alex Katz, Ugo Rondinone, and Julian Opie, and Imago Art Gallery of Switzerland, presenting Cy Twombly’s mixed media work Untitled (La Compositioni), 1964.
