Mission creepy-crawly: participants play a video game involving escaping a giant spider—while they are seated on a giant spider David Owens
If the usual Frieze fair seating arrangements are not quite exciting enough for you, then head to Theo Triantafyllidis’s new commission. The participatory sculpture, titled Feral Metaverse (Spider) (2026), takes the shape of a giant six-legged arachnid in deconstructed trainers and medical-hued stockings. Triantafyllidis was awarded this year’s Frieze Artist Award, which enabled him to create the new work. Billed as “part social experiment”, the piece incorporates a collaborative multiplayer video game that involves traversing a fantastical world to escape a giant spider. “I’m hoping I don’t have to explain it at some point,” Triantafyllidis says, “and people will discover and explore the space together.” Take a seat and get involved (unless you have arachnophobia, of course).
