The success of Condo, a recurring event for which gallerists in certain cities turn over all or most of their space to other galleries from different locales, has already seemed to spur similar programs, from Germany’s Okey Dokey to Los Angeles’s Ruberta, an ongoing collective effort run by five Latin American spaces. Next month, Poland will get its own Condo-esque event: Friend of a Friend, a gallery share program to be set in seven spaces in Warsaw.

Run by the galleries Stereo and Wschód, and organized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in partnership with Warsaw’s Cultural Department and Frieze magazine, Friend of a Friend, or FOAF for short, will run from April 7 to 28. It will feature work as presented by 14 international galleries from Berlin, the Hague, New York, and elsewhere, and it aims to provide an alternative model to the art fair system.

According to a statement on FOAF’s website, “Based on the principle of friendly collaboration (and not competition, often associated with the art market), the event not only succeeds in establishing an innovative platform to present contemporary art, but also an exchange model that provides an alternative to art fairs.”

The list of host galleries and FOAF participants follows below.

  • BWA Warszawa hosting Antoine Levi (Paris) and Hunt Kastner (Prague)
  • Foksal Gallery Foundation hosting ChertLüdde (Berlin) and Jan Kaps (Cologne)
  • LETO hosting Dürst Britt & Mayhew (The Hague)
  • Piktogram hosting Future (Berlin and Mexico City), Lomex (New York), and SVIT (Prague)
  • Dawid Radziszewski hosting Lucas Hirsch (Düsseldorf)
  • Raster hosting Bernhard (Zurich) and Ermes-Ermes (Vienna)
  • Stereo hosting Crèvecoeur (Paris) and Reserves Ames (Los Angeles)
  • Wschód hosting Neue Alte Brücke (Frankfurt) and Union Pacific (London)
