Fall is in the air! At least it feels like it on the northern side of the states. And as we know, with fall comes chunky sweaters, hoodies, pumpkin spice and some of the best events for the culture. ‘Tis almost the season to grab your crew, a jacket, and venture out to some of the most fall-worthy events and celebrations.
Road trip, anyone?
What better time to pack up the car and take the scenic route to a nearby city to enjoy all that fall has to offer? Extra cool points when the events are “for us and by us,” because who doesn’t love being surrounded by leaves and beautiful Black people? If you’re looking to do a quick trip this fall or simply just want to have a good time, below are some fall events to attend this upcoming season.
1. Black Owned Wine and Spirits Festival – October 8, 2024 (Washington, D.C.)
Wine festivals and crisp air go together real bad. Whether you enjoy a delicious cup of apple cider or you just want to be around the vibes, this black owned wine and spirits festival is a must! Formally known as “Chocolate City,” Washington, D.C. definitely knows a thing or two about bringing the Black community together, especially when it’s for a good time and cause.
Blacktoberfest! – October 12, 2024 (Durham, NC)
This festival created in 2020 as a means to celebrate black-owned breweries, caters to those who love beer, delicious food, and art. Coming to North Carolina this October, this one day festival will feature over 40 vendors including a performing stage. While this festival is fairly new, it gives brewers throughout the state of North Carolina a chance to showcase their craft beer through an experience worth your while. Being amongst Black entrepreneurs, good eats, and good drinks doesn’t sound like a half bad way to spend a brisk fall day.
One Music Fest – October 26 & 27, 2024 (Atlanta, Georgia)
A music festival in the heart of fall, what better excuse to rock your flyest fit? For the 15th year in a row, One Music Festival brings the vibes, the artists, and the culture. Taking place the last weekend of October at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, this year’s line up has a little something for everybody including the aunties and the uncles. Koryn Hawthorne, LaRussell, Jill Scott, Victoria Monet, and more are set to headline the show including several other special performances.
HBCU Homecoming (varies through the month of October)
It’s not fall without the HBCU homecoming experience. You don’t have to be enrolled to hit the yard at your alma mater or favorite campus with your friends. With homecoming comes all types of events you don’t want to miss out on, from tailgating to step shows. If you’ve never experienced a true homecoming at an HBCU, it’s never too late to immerse yourself in history, celebration, and the culture.
