An investigation by the Boston Globe revealed that Aaron Hernandez had a hard time with coming to terms with his sexuality and was the victim of an abusive father who beat him often for not measuring up in school and on the football field.

The Globe released a six-part investigative series on the former New England Patriots player’s troubling childhood that included interviews with his brother Jonathan Hernandez who revealed that he and his brother were beaten by their dad and lived in perpetual fear.

Hernandez committed suicide in prison after being convicted of murder and was acquitted of others. Since his passing, it has been revealed that he suffered from CTE, a brain disease suffered by athletes and others who have experienced repetitive brain trauma. CTE has been linked to personality and behavioral changes such as aggression and depression.

Jonathan said their father Dennis Hernandez physically abused both of his sons and even once gave Aaron a Black eye after he was thrown out of a school dance for drinking heavily. Dennis was a former high school football coach at Bristol Central.

According to the Globe, Jonathan claims that Aaron feared his father so much that he guarded his sexually closely. Dennis SanSoucie  said he had a sexual relationship with Aaron in high school.

“Me and him were very much into trying to hide what we were doing. We didn’t want people to know,” SanSoucie said in an interview with the paper.

SanSoucie is now open about his sexuality and has come out to his family.

Jonathan Hernandez, said the slur f—-t was commonplace in their home.

“I remember he wanted to be a cheerleader. My cousins were cheerleaders and amazing,” Jonathan said of his brother. “And I remember coming home and like my dad put an end to that really quick.”

Jonathan also said Aaron Hernandez was a victim of sexual abuse too.

Hernandez was serving time for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. He was acquitted in April of killing Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in Boston in July of 2012.

Five days after his acquittal the ex-NFL player hanged himself in his prison cell.
