ESPN Wins Eight Sports Emmy Awards; Network’s Innovation and Storytelling Recognized

On a night that recognized the best in sports media, ESPN won eight Sports Emmys presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for the 40th year and longtime analyst Dick Vitale was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. ESPN has now has won 204 Sports Emmy Awards in 32 years of eligibility.

E:60’s Storytelling Leads to Two Sports Emmys; Show Now Has 16 Emmys Since 2010
E:60 award-winning storytelling was recognized with its 15th and 16th Sports Emmy, as the magazine program won for News Anthology and Short Sports Documentary, marking 10 consecutive years the program has been honored on this night.  For ESPN, it’s the second consecutive win in the Short Sports Documentary category and its third in the last four years.

Technical Innovation Recognized In Both Event and Studio Categories; NFL Draft Production Leads to Graphic Design Emmy
ESPN’s technical innovation was recognized on multiple levels, as the network took home the Sports Emmy in Tech Team Remote for its US Open Tennis Championship, Technical Achievement for its MLB K Zone 3D, and Tech Team Studio for College GameDay.Tonight marked the 14th Emmy overall in Tech Team Remote and the second consecutive year that ESPN’s MLB production and College GameDay weekly show was honored with their two respective Emmys.  Overall, the Emmy is the 11th for College GameDay and sixth consecutive year the show has been recognized.

ESPN’s NFL Draft production led to a Sports Emmy for Live Graphic Design, ESPN’s 11th time winning in a Graphic Design category and its second in three years in the specific Live Graphic category.

Kirk Herbstreit Wins Fourth Sports Emmy, Ties Dick Schaap for Most Individual Emmys in ESPN’s History
Lead college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit was honored with the Outstanding Studio Analyst for his extraordinary work on College GameDay and additional College Football Playoff program contributions.  The Sports Emmy was Herbstreit’s fourth, having been awarded Outstanding Studio Analyst twice before (2010, 11) and event analyst last year. He is now tied with Dick Schaap for most individual Emmys by an ESPN commentator.

Pardon the Interruption Wins Second Emmy in Three Years, Third Overall
Pardon the Interruption won its third Emmy for Studio Show Daily, having first won in 2010 and then again in 2017. Overall, ESPN has won the studio shows 23 times.
