Every Telecast Window Improves upon 2018
Coco Gauff vs. Naomi Osaka on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2
All-Day Coverage all Weekend
After four days of ESPN’s exclusive, live coverage of the US Open, viewership is up 26%, from an average of 691,000 viewers (P2+) to 870,000. Every telecast has outperformed the equivalent window in 2018. The highpoint of the week was Thursday night’s Coco Gauff vs. Timea Babos match, won by Gauff in a tight, three-set decision. The viewership on ESPN2 peaked at the end of the match at 2,155,000.
Saturday’s night’s (7 p.m. ET on ESPN2) much-anticipated third-round match between the 15-year-old Gauff and defending champion and top-seeded Naomi Osaka – only 21 herself – highlights the first day of ESPN’s blanket coverage all Labor Day weekend. There are 12-hour windows scheduled Saturday-Monday starting at 11 a.m. Gauff is the youngest player in the US Open third round since Anna Kournikova in 1996.
The second match on Ashe tomorrow night will see #28 Nick Krygios play Andrey Rublev. Earlier in the day, #19 Caroline Wozniacki faces promising young Canadian #15 Bianca Andreescu followed by #2 Rafael Nadal vs. Chung Hyeon. In other Saturday matches, American Taylor Townsend hopes to follow up her upset of #4 Simona Halep with a win over Sorana Cirstea, #6 Alexander Zverev plays Aljaz Bedene and 6’10” #14 John Isner goes against 2014 champion Marin Cilic, the #22 seed.
Tonight’s Matches Highlighted by Keys, Djokovic
Tonight’s second round matches on ESPN2 are highlighted by a battle of Americans when Madison Keys plays Sofia Kenin at 7 p.m. The nightcap match sees Novak Djokovic vs. American Denis Kudla.
