ESPN is teaming up with the NBA to offer several innovative alternative viewing experiences on ESPN3 and the ESPN App for select games during its 82-game coverage of 2018 MGM Resorts NBA Summer League from Las Vegas, Nev. The annual event tips off today, Friday, July 6, at 3 p.m. ET. The alternative viewing experiences include:

  • “Summer League Live” – this is the full in-arena experience with continuous coverage throughout the game, including live in-venue entertainment, and updates on fashion and lifestyle. Viewers can also expect interactive social elements that will allow them to affect the live telecast.
  • “Dueling Analysts” – a unique approach that will gamify a broadcast by pitting analysts against each other in fun and competitive fashion.
  • “SkyCam View” – SkyCam will serve as the main camera angle and provide a trailing view of the game action, including the “flip n spin” which was made popular through basketball video games.
  • “Hometown Live Call” – viewers looking for the “hometown live call” with their local announcers will have the option of switching over for a listen.

ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPNU will combine to carry all 82 games from MGM Resorts NBA Summer League in Las Vegas live starting today with 10 games. The schedule culminates with the Summer League Championship Game on Tuesday, July 17, at 10 p.m. on ESPN. Veteran NBA play-by-play commentator Mark Jones, analyst Chauncey Billups and reporter Jorge Sedano will call the Championship game. This is the first year all 30 NBA teams are participating in the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League from Las Vegas. The event emanates from the Thomas & Mack Center and the Cox Pavilion at UNLV.

Tonight, July 6, at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN, the 2018 NBA Draft’s number one pick Deandre Ayton will debut with the Phoenix Suns as they play the Dallas Mavericks. Tomorrow, Saturday, July 7, the Suns will square off against the Sacramento Kings and number two NBA Draft pick Marvin Bagley III at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN. Earlier that day, ESPN will televise the Atlanta Hawks and number five draft pick Trae Young playing the New York Knicks and number nine pick Kevin Knox at 5:30 p.m.

Several top ESPN NBA commentators, including Chauncey Billups, Doris Burke, P.J. Carlesimo, Fran Fraschilla, Seth Greenberg, Cassidy Hubbarth, Mark Jones, Marc Kestecher, and Alvaro Martin will contribute to MGM Resorts NBA Summer League Las Vegas coverage.

The Jump, hosted by Rachel Nichols, will take its show on the road to Las Vegas for on-site shows, including a 30-minute special on Friday, July 6, at 7 p.m. on ESPN. SportsCenter will also provide comprehensive on-site coverage, including live news reports and updates from ESPN reporters, including Chris Haynes, Adrian Wojnarowski and Shelley Smith.

ESPN.com will document MGM Resorts NBA Summer League and on-going free agency with several reporters on site, including Kevin Arnovitz, Nick Friedell, Jonathan Givony, Chris Haynes, Zach Lowe, Jackie MacMullan, Bobby Marks, Kevin Pelton, Mike Schmitz, Adrian Wojnarowski, Ohm Youngmisuk, and more.

Consistent with previous years, all Summer League games on ESPN3 will co-exist with NBA TV. Every game from MGM Resorts NBA Summer League Las Vegas will stream on the ESPN App.
