  • College Football, SC Featured, E:60, NFL and ESPN Deportes Lead the Way

 

ESPN, Inc. once again led the industry in Sports Emmy Award nominations, earning 54 for 2017, announced today by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).  Notable nominations:

  • ESPN’s college football coverage totaled 10 nominations, including the College Football Playoff National Championship in Live Special and its Megacast in Trans-Media Sports Coverage, two-time Studio Analyst winner Kirk Herbsteit in the Event Analyst category, the 2018 Rose Bowl for Playoff coverage and six for College GameDay – Studio Show Weekly where it has won seven times including the last four years, two nominated features, Tech Team Studio, Tech Team Remote and host Rece Davis with his first-ever nomination.
  • SC Featured and E:60 each received eight nominations, the most of any single entry (along with the Army-Navy game on CBS).
  • ESPN’s NFL programming collected eight nominations, including Monday Night Countdown (Studio Show Weekly), Monday Night Football’s Jon Gruden (Event Analyst) and Lisa Salters (Reporter) and MNF in Tech Team Remote.
  • ESPN Deportes garnered eight nominations, including three in the studio show category (Beisbol Esta Noche, Futbol Picante and SportsCenter Deportes) and three in the on-air category (Jose Ramon Fernandez, 2015 winner Ernesto Jerez and Jorge Ramos).
  • Other notable nominations: Pardon the Interruption will defend its win in Studio Show Daily, the new SportsCenter on Snapchat was nominated in Social TV Experience, Bob Ley (Studio Host) and Mike Breen (Play-by-Play for NBA) received nods and ESPN’s presentation of the Special Olympics World Games was cited in the Writing category.
  • ESPN’s storytelling groups within production contributed 20 of the nominations across nine categories for SC Featured, E:60, College GameDay and 30 for 30.

The winners will be announced Tuesday, May 8, in New York.  ESPN has won 186 Sports Emmy Awards in 30 years of eligibility.  ABC Sports won 160 from 1980 – 2008.

ESPN’s 54 nominations come from ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN2, ABC, ESPN Deportes, ESPNEWS, ESPNU, ESPN Classic, ESPN Goal Line, SEC Network and WatchESPN.  By category (all are ESPN, except as noted):
