Last month, I attended the preview at  The Walters Art Museum for Douriean Fletcher: Jewelry of the Afrofutureexhibition. Douriean Fletcher is a self-taught jewelry artist from Pasadena. California whose work spans costume, film, and independent design. You might of likely seen her work in Marvel Studio’s Black Panther film (2018), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), and jewelry from miniseries of Roots (2016) and Coming 2 America (2021).
The exhibition explores Fletcher’s jewelry as a powerful narrative tool in art, Black identity, and visual storytelling through more than 100 works that span the artist’s life and career, from her formative years to the present day, including a dozen from the Walters Art Museum’s collection hand-picked by Fletcher. Exhibition is open until August 9, 2026.
The Walters Art Museum will be hosting several events surrounding this exhibition, recommend checking their events calendar to coincide with your visit.
Below, I share a clip from my time at the Press Preview, enjoy!
