Michael Love, a high school senior at Cornerstone Health and Technology High School in Detroit, Michigan, is being celebrated after he was accepted into 41 colleges.
“I got told a lot when I was young, I couldn’t do this, I couldn’t do that. So I just wanted to show people I’m better than what they think I am,” he told ABC 13.
His mother, Micole Ewing, is so proud that her son—a varsity basketball player and National Honor Society member—has been accepted into so many institutions.
“I thought he was crazy when
he told me he was applying to so many schools,” said Ewing. “Every time I open
up a letter, I jumped up and down, we praised God and everything. I’m super
proud of him.”
After a rough start in high school, Love buckled down and took his education seriously. “I just wanted to improve myself because I didn’t know what I was going to do after high school.”
Love applied to more than 50
colleges and universities and his high school was able to waive application
fees for most of his prospective schools.
Along with over 40 acceptance
letters, he has been offered over $300,000 in scholarship money so far. Love received
a full ride offer as well.
While he isn’t sure which school he’ll be attending in the fall, he is certain that he wants to become an aerospace engineer.
