Dear AFRO Subscribers and Supporters,

We pray that you and your families are staying safe and well. Like so many of you, COVID-19 has wreaked havoc in our professional and personal lives. The entire AFRO team is teleworking from kitchen tables, bedrooms (and wherever we can find space), while home schooling, caring for at-risk family members, and managing our own “new normal”. Yet, we remain committed to bringing you the latest COVID-19 news and information through print, eblasts, social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and our newly designed website, afro.com.

We’re writing to let you know that we are participating in a nationwide 501-C3 COVID-19 local news fund, designed to support independent publishers and family-owned publications like the AFRO during this time.  Every dollar raised helps support our continuing, consistent, timely coronavirus coverage of stories: stories about the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color; stories about the struggles of African American families and businesses; stories about the disparities in testing, and much more. We also want to publish your stories and pictures and invite you to submit them to [email protected].

If you believe, as we do, that our ability to provide enhanced coverage of  COVID-19 related news is critical, will you please consider making a tax-deductible donation by going to https://givebutter.com/theAFRO or sending your donation (payable to the Local Media Foundation) to us at 1531 S. Edgewood Street, Baltimore, MD 21227? While any day is a good day to give, May 5, 2020 has been designated as Giving Newsday NOW across the country.

All donors, regardless of the amount, will receive a complimentary six month digital subscription to the AFRO that you can use for yourself or gift to someone else. In addition, donors of $250 or more, will receive a copy (while supplies last) of our brand new magazine highlighting Washington, D.C. and Maryland’s Black women suffragists

Thank you, in advance, for your support. We don’t believe He brought us this far to leave us!

Kind regards,
Frances Murphy (Toni) Draper, Publisher

P.S.  Be on the lookout for information about a brand new AFRO membership program slated to launch August 1, 2020.
