Deadpool & Wolverine are about to make their MCU debut in the upcoming titular film, but they are not the only players in this latest entry in the Multiverse Saga.
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), aka the Merc With The Mouth, gets his chance to become “Marvel Jesus” and possibly become a part of something greater, the sacred timeline.
After literally being snatched out of his toupee and taken to TVA (Time Variance Authority), Wade Wilson, seemingly retired from Deadpooling, is given a reason to suit up again by Mr. Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen).
Mr.Paradox knows Wilson longs to become an Avenger, making his life meaningful and allowing him to become a permanent member of Earth 616, aka the sacred timeline.

But, the choice isn’t that simple, leading Deadpool on a journey that will require him to get help from a variant of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) who’s down on his luck and doesn’t consider himself the hero they think of him as.
Cassius Life’s Bernard “Beanz” Smalls spoke with Matthew Macfadyen ahead of the film’s release. In our conversation, he spoke about joining the MCU. We even got into “what if?” territory by exploring the idea that his character, Tom Wambsgams actually, is a variant of Mr. Paradox.

Wanting to belong or be a part of something greater is human nature, so, understandably, Deadpool has those feelings. Flipping that, we asked Macfadyen if he felt the same way now that he has become MCU canon, and he admits that he wasn’t aware of the scope of the MCU.
I was a bit ignorant of the whole MCU. I’d seen a few films but wasn’t so plugged into it. It’s only really now that I’m starting to understand the scale of it. It’s a big deal.”

“I think it’s interesting. I was a bit ignorant of the whole MCU,” Macfadyn admits. I’d seen a few films but wasn’t so plugged into it. It’s only really now that I’m starting to understand the scale of it. It’s a big deal.”He continues, “There’s a lot of films, and there’s a lot of characters, and so it’s really exciting. And I think Deadpool is its own thing, and it’s such a defined, unique thing. I don’t know what it means, but I think it’s exciting creatively because you can match up. There’s an infinite amount of mashups and stories you can tell with all these different people from all these different worlds. It’s exciting.”

Deadpool & Wolverine heavily leans into the Multiverse. With a movie like this –one full of cameos– it’s not a stretch of the imagination to believe that Succession, the hit HBO original series Macfadyen also starred in, could be in the MCU.
Macfadyen plays Tom Wambsgans in the show, who quickly became a favorite of Succession fans and a thorn in Cousin Greg’s (Nicholas Braun) side.
So, of course, we had to ask him about the possibility of Mr. Parad/ox’s variant being Tom and what a meeting between the two would look like.
“I mean, one’s American, one’s British. They’re both corporate, venal, strange men. I don’t know. It hasn’t crossed my mind until today, actually,” Madfadyen admits. “Yeah, I think you could probably transport the whole Roy family and put them in various characters in the Multiverse. Loki’s not a million miles away from Roman Roy (Kieran Culkin), and Shiv (Sarah Snook) is probably, I don’t know, Black Widow.”
He even Logan (Brian Cox) could be Thanos.”Now, that’s a crossover event we would love to see.
Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26. You can head here to purchase tickets.
