  • Wimbledon is the Major Tennis Debut for ESPN+

The Wimbledon fortnight commences tomorrow, Monday, July 2, with 64 singles matches on the docket and ESPN has all the action exclusively in the U.S. with ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 and – making its Major tennis debut – the new ESPN+ service.  The latter’s offerings will include Court Two where the order of play begins with last year’s Gentlemen’s finalist, #3 seed Marin Cilic, five-time champion #9 seed Venus Williams, an intriguing matchup of French veterans – Gael Monfils and #24 Richard Gasquet, and #5 Elina Svitolina who has reached at least the fourth round in her last four Majors.

For the first time, every match from the 18 courts at the All England Lawn Tennis Club – celebrating its 150th anniversary – will be played in front of cameras.  ESPN’s coverage – first ball to last ball – includes more than 500 matches, all available for fans between ESPN3 and the new ESPN+ on the ESPN app; 140 hours of action will be on TV.  The action will climax with the Ladies’ Championship and the Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Doubles Championships on ESPN on Saturday, July 14, and the Gentlemen’s Championship on Sunday, July 15, followed by the Mixed Doubles Championship.

ESPN+ will stream live the following 14 courts at Wimbledon, Monday, July 2 (action on each court begins at 11:30 a.m. ET; all matches available on demand for until the end of the tournament):

ESPN and Tennis

Tennis has been part of ESPN since its first week on the air, providing numerous memorable moments from around the world, but it has never been as important as today, with the unprecedented position of presenting three of the sport’s Major events from start to finish (Australian Open, Wimbledon, US Open, with exclusivity at the latter two).
