A man accused of sending a racist message to WNBA player Dearica Hamby has now been fired from his job at Acclaro Medical.
Racism in any form should never be accepted, and exposing it at the core is the best way to stop the spread of hate. Last week when Los Angeles Sparks forward Dearica Hamby received a disgusting text sent directly to her phone, we think she did the right thing by blasting the message on social media for all to see.
Her actions not only helped trace it back to the original sender, but the racist in question even lost his job as a result of the hate crime.

After fans identified the man, later revealed to be an employee for Acclaro Medical, he was suspended the following day pending an investigation. The disciplinary action followed with a statement released on social media, with Acclaro Medical in part writing, “The Company wants to be unequivocally clear that it condemns racism, harrassment, hate speech and discriminating behavior in all forms. Most importantly, the online remarks and views do not in any way reflect the values and standards of the Company.”
According to USA TODAY, the employe was confirmed to be let go by Acclaro Medical as of Monday (September 1).
The text message is widely believed to be in response to a flagrant foul against the WNBA star during the Sparks’ game against the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, August 22. The elbow Hamby hit Sun forward Raegan Beers with appeared to be accidental, yet somehow she still was called a “dirty ass N-Word” and “animal” who should be put in a zoo. The league has publicly condemned the situation and put its full support behind Hamby, writing in a statement released yesterday (September 2), “The WNBA stands unequivocally with Dearica Hamby and condemns the racist abuse directed at her in the strongest possible terms. We are committed to holding anyone who engages in such abhorrent behavior accountable, and this individual will be permanently banned from all league games and events.”
While we’re sure this won’t be the last incident of racism in the public eye, at least it sets an example that hate won’t be tolerated and will only lead to ruining your own life.
In other words, think twice, trolls.
