College football Saturdays will begin this season as they have for more than 30 years — with College GameDay Built By The Home Depot, one of the most iconic shows in all of television. Featuring its one-of-a-kind recipe blending entertainment, news, information and analysis, with superb storytelling, the program unfolds weekly in front of an unrivaled atmosphere. This past May, the program captured its 11th Sports Emmy as a unit and the accolades extended to its commentators. Kirk Herbstreit was honored with the Sports Emmy for Outstanding Studio Analyst across all sports – his third such award for his work on the show (2010, 2011) – and Rece Davis was nominated in the Outstanding Studio Host category.
“College GameDay revolutionized the college football fan experience long ago,” said ESPN senior vice president of production Lee Fitting. “Each season we relish the opportunity to build upon that legacy. It’s a responsibility we take great pride in and think about 365 days a year. This year, in conjunction with our CFB150 initiative, we will raise the bar even higher.”
College GameDay at Sundance Square for the Season’s First Saturday
Remaining in its traditional 9 a.m. – noon ET timeslot on ESPN, fans can join College GameDay in Sundance Square in Fort Worth, Texas, on the season’s first full Saturday (August 31), in advance of Oregon vs. Auburn from AT&T Stadium. The North Texas location will host College GameDay for the fourth time, including its third time as a season opener (2014, 2015). The rematch of the 2010 national championship game will also kickstart ABC’s Saturday Night Football slate (7:30 p.m.).
This will be the 25th Oregon game and 19th Auburn game that GameDay has been present at, with the Ducks sporting a 14-10 record and the Tigers a 9-9 record.
College GameDay’s Week 1 Saturday stop is just one part of the show’s early season plans, which are still being developed. More information will be released in the coming weeks.
Ninth Consecutive Year Main Set Analysts Return
All the familiar faces are back this season on College GameDay, a cast with a camaraderie that is second-to-none and has built an unmatched rapport with college football fans.
Coach Lee Corso has appeared on the show each season dating back to its launch in 1987. This season, he will resume one of the sport’s greatest traditions, donning of the headgear to conclude each show. Corso enters this season with an all-time record of 214-115 in his headgear picks.
Herbstreit enters his 24th season on the show, dating back to 1996 and has steadily become the sport’s authoritative voice through his work both on GameDay and in the broadcast booth. The aforementioned Sports Emmy for the analyst was his fourth individual Emmy, having also been awarded the Most Outstanding Event analyst in 2018.
Desmond Howard will return for his 15th season on the program, while David Pollack enters his ninth. Howard’s pedigree is among the best of any analyst, having capturing a Heisman Trophy and a Super Bowl MVP in his playing days and later was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame (2010). Pollack is looking to join Howard in the Hall of Fame this season, as the former three-time first team All-American is nominated this season.
Rece Davis Enters Fifth Year as Host
Davis enters his fifth year as host of College GameDay, with his Emmy nomination further solidifying him as one of the premier hosts in sports television. Davis also hosts the network’s College Football Playoff Selection Specials, including weekly ranking reveals and the Selection Day at the conclusion of the regular season.
Maria Taylor Returns as Reporter; Tom Rinaldi, Gene Wojciechowski and Jen Lada Continue Feature Reporting
College GameDay’s interviews and storytelling, which have been a backbone of the show, return this year, fronted by Maria Taylor, Tom Rinaldi, Gene Wojciechowski and Jen Lada.
‘The Bear’ Returns for his 24th Season
Chris “The Bear” Fallica begins his 24th year on the show, having started the same year as Herbstreit. Fallica will continue in his research role, providing key pieces of information throughout the show. Bear’s Board will also be part of the show again this season.
