Almost all of the students in Columbia University’s MFA Visual Arts program—51 students of 54 in the class—are demanding full-tuition refunds due to decrepit facilities and absentee instructors. The cost of tuition for the 2017-2018 year is $63,961. [Hyperallergic]
Two of three works controversially pulled from the Guggenheim Museum’s recent Chinese art survey in New York will be on view in the show’s next iteration at the Guggenheim in Bilbao. [Artnet News]
Two months ago, ARTnews reported that the Guggenheim was in the process of acquiring one of the pieces it removed from the New York iteration of the survey, Xu Bing’s A Case Study of Transference (1994), a video of a performance piece that shows two pigs—one stamped with false Chinese characters, the other stamped with false English words—mating. Architecture critic Martin Filler penned an appreciation of “Cult of the Machine: Precisionism and American Art” at San Francisco’s de Young Museum and its “cocktail shakers that look like skyscrapers, skyscrapers that look like cocktail shakers, paintings that resemble photographs, cars reminiscent of zeppelins.” [New York Review of Books]

At its gala in New York last night, Bomb magazine announced plans to raise $15 million over the next three years for an endowment. A total of 25 artists and estates, including Jasper Johns, Vik Muniz, R. H. Quaytman, and Amy Sillman, have said they will help out. [ARTnews]
