The WNBA sent its first string players to FIBA, and it paid off as Team USA beat Team France 97-79 to win the championship and claim America’s fifth consecutive Gold medal.
The stacked team included Breanna Stewart, Kahleah Cooper, Jackie Young, Chelsea Gray, Napheesa Collier, Rhyne Howard, Aliyah Boston, and Paige Bueckers.
But what fans were most locked in on was rivals Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese being on the same team, as Clark dropped 12 points and Reese scored 3, respectively.
The two were even spotted being cordial while seated next to each other on the bench, cracking smiles between sips of water.
It only dispels the social media storyline that the two are sworn enemies after their rivalry started in college at Iowa and LSU, which led to finger-wagging and an NCAA championship, and sparked a renewed interest in the WNBA as they made their professional transition.
To further prove the beef isn’t as deep as everyone says, Clark, rocking her new gold medal hardware, was asked if she and Reese are friends now, and she jumped at the chance to end that narrative.
“We’ve always been friends. Don’t try to do that,” she says while wagging her finger at a reporter and walking away.
It stuck with her because moments later, during an interview with Chelsea Gray, Clark was seen leaving the group of reporters, looking in the direction of the person who asked the question, and appeared to say, “Don’t do that,” while shaking her head.
Lately, Reese has reassured fans that their relationship isn’t as chill as previously thought, speaking on the chemistry they’ve built as teammates.
“I’m sure we know each other’s game like the back of each other’s hand … So it’s fun. We just continue to build chemistry because we know we’re going to be USA teammates for a while,” she told TNT.
Champagne bottle-popping Clark even starred in Reese’s TikTok after the win.
