The Bronx Museum of the Arts in New York has appointed seven new members to its board of trustees. They will work with the institution on financial planning, social media management, and developing public spaces and cross-cultural dialogues.
The individuals joining the museum as trustees are artist Angel Otero; Dana Emmott, owner of Elden Services Company; Debbie Landau, cofounder and former president and CEO of the Madison Square Park Conservancy; Karen Robinovitz, cofounder and former CEO of Digital Brand Architects; Mark Lu, principal of Terracina Real Estate Management and co-owner of the Bronx-based restaurant group Porto Salvo; Nathaniel Wilcox, associate dean for finance and human resources at Columbia University’s School of General Studies; and Susan Hinkson, executive vice president and co-leader of the Real Estate, Land Use and Zoning Practice Group at Capalino + Company.
In a statement, Bronx Museum executive director Deborah Cullen said, “We are thrilled to welcome this dynamic and diverse group of individuals to our board of trustees. They embody the tremendous resources our community has to offer, and will serve to help us continue realizing the potential of this museum through their range of skills and experiences.”
Otero had his first solo museum exhibition in New York at the Bronx Museum in 2017. He has also shown work at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston in Texas, the SCAD Museum of Art in Georgia, and the Centro Atlantico de Arte Moderno in Spain, among other venues.
Emmott, whose partner was the Bronx Museum’s former executive director, the late Holly Block, runs a company that offers services for residential and commercial properties. He is involved with the board’s development and gala committees.
Best known for creating a public art program for Madison Square Park, Landau commissioned 30 exhibitions for the Madison Square Park Conservancy, where she worked until 2013. That organization and the Bronx Museum co-organized a show of work by Diana Al-Hadid in 2018.
After beginning her career as a journalist, Robinovitz served as co-CEO of a talent agency dedicated to the management of social-media influencers and content creators. She is also on the board of advisers at the Brooklyn Museum.
Lu is a Bronx-based entrepreneur. In his position as principal of Terracina Real Estate Management, he oversees portfolios of investment properties. He is also the founder of the Sustainable Wealth Network.
Before coming to Columbia, Wilcox was the director of operations at the Cooper Hewitt Museum; during his tenure there, he was the project coordinator for a $95 million restoration and expansion of the Andrew Carnegie Mansion that houses the institution. He also has experience working as associate financial manager for education at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Born and raised in the Bronx, Hinkson was previously a capital program manager for the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, deputy commissioner of planning and community development for Sullivan County in New York, Brooklyn borough commissioner for the NYC Department of Buildings, and commissioner of the New York City Board of Standards and Appeals.
