Bloomberg Philanthropies has named the 50-plus organizations based in Austin, Texas, and New Orleans that have been selected to participate in the foundation’s Arts Innovation and Management Program. Some 26 cultural organizations in Austin and 27 in New Orleans will be provided operating support and internal arts management training through the $43 million multi-year project, which falls under Bloomberg’s larger American Cities Initiative. A full list of organizations receiving grant money can be found below.
Michael R. Bloomberg, the founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies, said in a statement, “The arts inspire people, provide jobs, and strengthen communities. This program is aimed at helping some of the country’s most exciting cultural organizations reach new audiences and expand their impact.”
Both cities, according to a release, rank among the 20 American cities identified as “top arts-vibrant large communities” in the 2018 Arts Vibrancy Index, which is published annually by the National Center for Arts Research. In a statement, New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell thanked the Bloomberg foundation, adding, “In New Orleans, art and culture are central to our identity—specifically, the work of our smaller, ground-level cultural organizations helps to define the creative fabric of our city and serves as a major part of the cultural influence of New Orleans.”
Austin’s mayor, Steve Adler said, “This investment from Bloomberg Philanthropies will create the capacity for our emerging arts organizations to realize their potential and be better equipped to grow into mature organizations that will serve our community long into the future.”
