Aspiring singer Ayanazai captured the internet’s attention with throwback photos of her father, Ryan Gentles, as part of the heartbreak challenge on July 11.
The trend encourages users to showcase how their loved ones have gracefully aged over time and Mr. Gentles has shown little to no signs of aging over the years. If you aren’t familiar with the handsome gent, the 47-year-old actor, notably collaborated with Tyler Perry Studios on various projects, including starring as heartthrob Nate in the stage play Madea Goes to Jail (2006) and appearing in the film adaptation of Madea’s Family Reunion and Perry’s What’s Done in the Dark.
Ayanazai’s nostalgic slideshow shared Thursday featured shirtless photos of her father sporting long locs and showcasing his muscular physique back in the day. One striking image even showed Gentles on the cover of Essence, with his bulky muscles on full display. Another heartfelt moment captured Gentles smiling alongside Perry and holding Ayanazai as a baby.
“My dad told me ‘He was like that back in the day,’” a text overlay featured on top of the video read.
Users in the comments section couldn’t get over the sexy throwback images of Gentles with many noting how they clamored over him following his appearance in Madea Goes to Jail where his character was famously known for wearing Kente Oil.
“You’re daddy was fine, I just yelled Kente Oil!” wrote one user.
Another fan commented, “Mr. Kente Oil himself! Man. He was breaking hearts, girl. That man is and still is beautiful my god.”
Other users were blown away by how youthful Gentles appeared.
“That man still looks good,” one person penned. “He still got it!” another user commented.
Ayanazai’s heartbreak challenge has garnered over 120,000 likes on TikTok and over 5,000 comments from fans. She took to Instagram on Thursday to thank netizens for their incredible responses and reactions.
“My dad is so excited about this. I will never be able to live this down,” she wrote.
Other users have joined in on the fun heartbreak challenge on TikTok this week. On July 12, a user named @Viva_la-Vasio shared a collage of her 61-year-old mother’s transformation over the years, and judging by the clip, Vasio’s mom is aging like fine wine. Another user named MyzDollasss claimed that her father may have been responsible for breaking a few hearts back in the day due to his handsome looks. Check out the video below.
