Bill Arning, who stepped down as director of Houston’s Contemporary Arts Museum in a surprise move in October, will join Nancy Littlejohn Fine Art gallery as a curator and artist liaison for special projects.
“There is need in Houston for a space that can bring international folks here as well as some Texas favorites,” Arning told ARTnews. “I was unsure if this was the right move for me until I saw the space and thought, ‘This is beautiful.’ ”
Nancy Littlejohn Fine Art, which dates back to 1989 in Houston, is reopening next year in a location near the neighborhood of River Oaks.
Arning’s move was first reported by Paper City.
Prior to assuming his new duties at the gallery in January, Arning said, he and Littlejohn will be spending time visiting artists in New York and Los Angeles, among other cities outside of Texas. “From there, we’ll be deciding on some projects that I’ll be working on for the first two years. Right now, Nancy and I are at that place where we’re just texting artist names back and forth.”
