Beyoncé wore five custom outfits from the French luxury fashion house during her two-hour set. Creative director of the brand Olivier Rousteing spoke to Vogue about working closely with Bey to develop her looks including the Avante Garde Nefertiti inspired opening outfit.
Bey is the first Black woman to headline Coachella and she made sure to present Black culture throughout her entire performance. Having her team approach Rousteing to customize her outfits added another layer of Black excellence as the Frenchman is one of 3 Black designers to head luxury fashion houses (including the newly appointed Virgil Abloh at Luis Vuitton and Ozwald Boateng formerly at Givenchy).
“B is a perfectionist. She has such a distinct vision for fashion and for her music, I really learned a lot from this experience and from watching her work in those rehearsals,” Rousteing told the fashion magazine. “I was able to be in the room with her and she would give me direct feedback about how the lighting should hit the clothes, what the music had to emphasize about each look—I never had to guess what to do next.”
It is reported that her second-weekend set will come with entirely new stage costumes. Check out Queen Bey’s looks from Weekend One below.
